In June 2019 researchers from around the world gathered for the first Local Democracy Academy organized by the Swedish International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) in Umeå, Sweden. The objective of the academy was to discuss and present the latest research in the field of local democracy, explore directions for future research and foster collaborations.
We invite participants of ICLD Local Democracy Academy as well as others researching rebel cities and local governments to contribute to an edited volume/special journal issue with the theme ‘Rebel Cities: Local Government and Global Challenges beyond 2030’.

ICLD is issuing a call for policy relevant research proposals on local democracy. The aim of the call is to better understand the role of local governments and local democratic institutions in addressing global challenges.
ICLD is making a call for a national mentor Uganda to support teams that will be accepted at the next cohort of the Advanced International Training Gender Mainstreaming Local democracy.
