Project: From Waste to Resource
The project “From Waste to Resource” adresses waste management and circular economy, environmental education and how to communicate waste management issues to children from 5 to 6 in a kindergarten and youths from 7-17 in three pilot schools in the rural area. In Ukraine, there is great knowledge and experience of how waste management works in war and in crises but there are also challenges when it comes to habits linked to waste management and recycling. The plan for this project is to create a policy for the educational department in Shatsk to integrate waste sorting and recycling education into the standard school curriculum. A draftpolicy for the education regarding waste sorting and recycling has already been developed. They plan to work with surveys, dialogues and quizes to assess pupils’ understanding of waste sorting and recycling and will create a communication plan including key messages for pupils while using social media to raise awareness. The acitivities of this project include workshops for educators, establishing and promoting clean-up initiatives, organised community clean-ups and interactive waste sorting workshops. The methods include study visits, workshops, seminars, and discussions about waste management during war time in Shatsk.
