Welcome as participant in cohort 11 of Women´s Political Leadership Programme to our digital training activity on the theme of “How to Lead Change that Connects – People, Purpose and Participation”
Purpose: The seminar will explore how to lead successful change by combining structured planning, continuous communication, an understanding of human responses, and strong leadership commitment.
Strategic change efforts often fail when they don’t engage the very people needed to make them work. People are more likely to commit when the process feels meaningful – and when they feel seen, respected, and that they belong. For women in political leadership, leading change is also about creating space for others. Change that lasts, is built on inclusion and equity – recognising different starting points, and ensuring all voices are heard. Truly sustainable change happens when the values inside your organisation mirror the society where you want to make a difference – when justice, participation, and shared ownership are part of both.

Assignment before the seminar
Be ready to share reflections with peer participants. Think about the key challenges you’re facing in your change process – especially those that make it difficult to lead the work in a sustainable, inclusive and steady way. You don’t need to prepare a formal presentation – just be ready to talk openly about your experiences, questions, and insights in a conversation with colleagues.
Here is some food for thought: What are the most significant and tangible challenges or sources of resistance to the change you’re proposing, and to introducing new ways of working?
- Is there a lack of a shared vision or a common understanding of the problem and its urgency?
- Do people struggle to see what’s in it for them – or feel left out of the process?
- Is the challenge that the vision and communication about the change doesn’t reach beyond you and your management team – including to those most affected by the change?
- Are there gaps in the resources, structures, or support systems needed to implement the change fairly and consistently?
- Is there resistance to embedding the change in a way that builds on trust, belonging, and shared ownership?
Learning objectives:
After active participation in the session,
- …participants can relate to important considerations that make change sustainable – including the role of equity and inclusion.
- …participants can articulate how they can create greater space for change by involving a broader range of voices.
- …participants can identify concrete ways to engage others in the change process and ensure shared responsibility and ownership for progress.
