Project: Inclusive Employment & Rights – Advancing LGBTIQ+ Equality through Local Policy

Upplands-Bro Municipality in Sweden and its partner Maicao in Colombia are planning a mutual learning process on how local governments can strengthen inclusive public policy that ensures the rights and economic participation of LGBTIQ+ individuals—especially women, youth, migrants, and indigenous people. The goal is to co-develop long-term strategies to address the structural barriers these groups face in accessing formal, dignified employment, while anchoring efforts in both human rights and local realities.

The project has a clear ambition to enhance institutional coordination within Maicao’s municipal administration while promoting collaboration with external stakeholders such as NGOs, human rights defenders, and grassroots movements. The thematic focus on intersectionality—considering gender, sexual orientation, migration status, and ethnicity—provides a strong foundation for inclusive governance and equitable development.

The partnership is part of the Gender Equality Network.
