Welcome to an online session on Participatory democracy for politicians and officials in ICLD programmes and networks, based on the Core Course Participatory Democracy.  

Objective: Provide an overall introduction to the core course Participatory Democracy to both politicians and officials in the two programmes and encourage the completion of the entire course. 

Invited: All participants in WPL9 and both politicians and civil servants in the Human rights Youth Network. 

Content: The online session contains both an introduction to the ICLD Core Course Participatory Democracy as well as inspirational lecture, good examples of methodology to use, breakout-rooms with active participation and opportunity to share experiences in plenary. 

The online seminar is linked to the goal of “Increased influence of marginalized groups and young people on local decision making.” 

Participants’ preparation: All participants who register for the session will be asked to prepare a short assignment on the theme of engaging citizens and civil society in decision-making processes based on their own experience and being prepared to share this at the training session. 
 

Learning objectives: 

After active participation in the session,  

…participants will be able to explain what participatory democracy means, and how participatory democracy practices can be both means and ends to achieve their objectives in the change project as well as develop local democracy. 

…participants will be able to recognize various participatory methods are and how they can be applied in the local government and in their ICLD project.

This online seminar is not a mandatory component of the WPL programme or HR Youth network but recommended.
