A project aimed at streamlining and enhancing the efficiency of monitoring and results reporting in aid work has been granted to ICLD, Läkarmissionen, and We Effect.
The 18-month-long project, “AI Prototyping for Development,” has been granted by Vinnova. The project is funded as part of their and AI Sweden’s multi-year initiative, “Kraftsamling för AI i kommuner och civilsamhälle” (Mobilization for AI in Municipalities and Civil Society).
The Purpose and Goals of the Project
An AI-driven reporting and results processing system enhances and strengthens the capacity of Swedish aid organizations to monitor and highlight outcomes achieved over time. In line with the aid policy reform agenda’s increased demands for efficiency and accountability, leveraging digitalization is essential to build on past experiences and systematize learning, ultimately maximizing the impact of each aid dollar.
The goal is to develop a language model that simplifies the analysis of previous project data for planning and designing future projects. The project’s open-source solutions and established standards will enable other organizations to utilize the AI tool after the project’s completion.
Strengthening Democracy
In the press release announcing the new project in August 2024, Johan Lilja, Secretary General of ICLD, stated:
– “ICLD continuously works to improve and develop results monitoring. We are convinced that an AI tool can not only streamline our work but also contribute to a more transparent and inclusive democratic process at the local level. Therefore, ICLD’s participation in this project is an important contribution to strengthening democracy through innovative technological solutions.”
