Children’s Rights in Health Service Delivery: Capacity Building Workshop

5–6 mars 2026

Thika Town, Kenya

Spreading the results from the work with Child Rights Ambassadors developed in the Regions Stockholm – Jinja City municipal partnership, ICLD holds a training for hospital managers and children’s rights officers in Kenya.

Children’s rights are a core government obligation and essential for child wellbeing, with health facilities serving as frontline duty bearers responsible for both medical care and rights protection. Kenya has a strong legal framework, including the Constitution (2010), the Children Act (2022), and health policies, but hospitals face challenges in applying these commitments, such as limited capacity, weak coordination with child protection actors, and gaps in accountability.

This workshop will serve as a practical, hands-on platform for applying the newly launched Secure and Develop Children’s Rights toolkit. By documenting experiences and outcomes, the workshop will generate valuable lessons that can inform similar initiatives in other countries where ICLD operates. The knowledge gained and best practices identified will be shared widely to facilitate replication and strengthen children’s rights integration across health systems. As a dissemination workshop, it provides both a learning opportunity for participants and a model for scaling up rights-based approaches in Kenyan contexts.

The training is held within the ICLD Alumni Programme.
