EU-integration through Youth Inclusion
The partnership between Trollhättan and Fastiv are in the early phase of their project. After receiving approval for their application, the municipalities began planning their activities with a strong focus on youth participation and community inclusion.
At its core, the project targets young people in vulnerable contexts—rural youth in Ukraine and, in Trollhättan, girls with immigrant backgrounds living in socio-economically challenged neighborhoods. Guided by SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), the partnership aims to foster inclusive practices and civic engagement among youth when working on a curriculum for a training on Euro-Atlantic integration.
At the organisational level, the focus of the collaboration lies on community participation. The goal is not only to involve young people as beneficiaries but to empower them as co-creators of change in their communities. The project will proceed through several key stages:
- Needs Assessment: Youth in Fastiv’s rural villages will participate in online surveys and focus groups to identify their priorities and challenges.
- Targeted Activities: Based on identified needs, youth centers will host relevant events to engage and support young people.
- Civic Exposure: A schedule of educational excursions will introduce youth to municipal structures and decision-making processes.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: A dedicated monitoring specialist will track progress, gather feedback, and guide improvements.
- Digital Information Hub: A Telegram channel will be launched to disseminate information on education, creative initiatives, internships, and opportunities—creating a space for connection and inspiration.
The partnership emphasizes clear communication, the strategic use of interpreters, and adaptability to shifting contexts. Though still in early stages, Trollhättan and Fastiv are laying the groundwork for a participatory, youth-centered model that strengthens local democracy, community resilience and European integration.
The partnership is part of the ICLD Democratic Resilience Network.
