About

At ICLD we believe in building long-term relationships with our International Training Programme and Municipal Partnership alumni, and local democracy advocates around the world.

We’re in touch with over 200 alumni in our focus countries in Africa and Europe. ICLD alumni make a positive difference to the lives of others through sustainable local democratic change. From mayors, to inspirational councillors and managers, to NGO representatives and beyond, ICLD alumni foster democratic development in all corners of the world.

Our alumni and friends have helped, and continue to help, ICLD become an important actor for local democracy. Alumni can support ICLD in many different ways. Some volunteer their time helping our programmes and our research. Some are ‘country contacts’, organising alumni networks and events in cities around the world. Some simply inspire us with their incredible achievements.

ICLD is also keen to support our alumni in various ways – do not hesitate to reach out if you have ideas or questions. At ICLD we are continuously working towards providing alumni with the opportunities they need to further strengthen local democracy in their local government, country or region.

Opportunities

We further education opportunities and networking through on-site events, interesting panel discussions and connections to our research network. See our education portal for e-courses on Participatory Democracy, Localising SDGs, Gender Equality, Human rights Budgeting, and more.

Alumni events are generally organised by fellow Alumni. Let us know if you have an idea to share!

The Alumni network is growing
