Danny Chibinda, Alumni representative Southern Africa:
Danny Chibinda holds MSc degrees in Sustainable Development and Environmental Science from Sweden, along with postgraduate training in Sustainable Cities and Public Administration from Germany and the United States, respectively. He is passionate about co-creating an inclusive and dynamic alumni network that fosters knowledge exchange, mutual learning, and local democratic innovation across the region.
With over 17 years of experience in inclusive governance, local democracy, and SDG-aligned development across Zambia and Southern Africa, he has led initiatives that strengthened municipal capacity, civic leadership, and stakeholder engagement. As Capacity Building Advisor for the USAID-funded Local Impact Governance Project, he contributed to the formulation of Integrated Development Plans and significant growth in municipal revenue across more than 30 councils.
Danny also has extensive experience as an ICLD mentor, both in the International Training Programme and the Human Rights Network. He currently serves in the Human Rights Youth Network, where he is responsible for the Lusaka/Lidköping and Solwezi teams and supports the Livingstone team when needed.

John Gitonga, Alumni representative East Africa:
John holds a bachelor’s degree in Development Studies and a Diploma in Urban Development Studies from the Institute of Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) in the Rotterdam, the Netherlands and has a passion in coordination and execution of projects that lead to sustainable socio – economic development.
With several years of experience in managing development projects and organizing major national and international events, training programmes, workshops and conferences, John has served as project coordinator of large multidisciplinary teams organizing and implementing development programmes, capacity building in East Africa countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi.
John has been involved in ICLD programmes since 2015 and has been a Mentor for ICLD –ITP programmes.
