Area of Cooperation: Strengthening wastewater management

The quality of water is one of the main issues the residents of the Ternopil City Territorial Community face now. Currently, 230,500 people use water supply services. Pollution from wastewater violates the ecological rights of individuals and increases social and gender inequalities, particularly among vulnerable groups. Often, the interests of the community’s residents are insufficiently considered during the development of wastewater management policies. The population sometimes has limited access to information about the dangers of water pollution and purification methods, reducing their ability to protect their health and the environment. It is also important to note that the community generally has restricted access to decision-making mechanisms regarding water resource management.

As such, the Ternopil-Ronneby partnership will focus on developing an organizational mechanism for actions and dividing responsibilities among those involved, as well as the involvement of minorities and underrepresented groups in the discussion of the issue of wastewater pollution.
