Who is Ruby Chandra?
I have 12 years’ experience in developmental planning and coordinating community programmes. I have worked with both Government and Non-Governmental Organisations to promote gender equality and women empowerment as well as promotion of good leadership, democracy and good governance by supporting the establishment of governance structures meant to enhance community participation, tourism development, talent identification among the youth, skills training for both women and men among others.
Why did you choose to become a mentor for ICLD?
My motivation to ICLD as mentor is twofold. On the one hand, ICLD has a pragmatic approach to build resilient, inclusive and better societies by combining training and practical skills. This approach enables participants to acquire new skills and knowledge while applying such to improve systems and processes with their institution for better services provision. And on the other hand, it is the desire and the passion that I have in women empowerment, ensure society maximizes the potential of all humanity to advance developing. My knowledge and skills will definitely come in handy in this quest because I am aware that women are not only affected by problem but also possess ideas and leadership to solve them.
What do you want to contribute as a mentor?
As a social worker, I promote social change that result in cohesion, empowerment of people and communities to enhance development. It is from this background that I intend to utilize the experience, knowledge and skills I have acquired over time to support and guide my teams. Similarly, I will enrich the human resource base for ICLD to tap into to improve and advance the various programmes being undertaken. Research and networking are other important aspects I offer to ensure gender equality is championed by many people from an informed point of view.
