Ovanåker and Overstrand, South Africa

This application is part of the network “Municipal partnership for human rights”, an international network of municipal partnerships between Swedish local authorities and their international counterparts in southern Africa that have committed to achieving Agenda 2030 through a rights-based strategy and are committed to work more systematically with human rights at the local level.Ovanåker Municipality and Overstrand Local Municipality are applying for an inception phase  to to jointly develop a project plan. The proposed project plan is closely linked to human rights topics. For the municipality of Ovanåker, these are politically decided group goals that include Agenda 2030 in general and target areas 3, 5, 10, 15, 16 and 17 in particular. At this stage, both partners have already created a mutual challenge regarding the democratic participation of children and young people in their municipalities and want to explore together what their organizations can do to ensure the rights of children and young people are better protected, respected and promoted within their municipality. During the inception phase, the partners will ensure that political support is gathered for the partnership and that a steering group is formed in time for the project and steering group application. A Memorandum of Understanding between our two organizations will also be signed if a common will to continue the human rights partnership is established.
