Are you a university student who is interested in the development of local democracy? Then you’re in the right place!
ICLD constantly encounters problems and challenges that need study during the course of its work. How is legitimacy affected in developing countries when international donors finance activities that are, properly, the task of the municipalities themselves? What makes citizens willing to get involved in their local community? What is the importance of the local level when working to regenerate a country ravaged by war and conflict? How can partnerships between towns, cities and municipalities in different countries help strengthen democracy?
There are many questions and, hopefully, you can help us and our partners find the answers we need. Our partners are municipalities, regions, and county councils in Sweden and our partner countries (Bosnia and Hercegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldavia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, India, Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia).
