24 politicians and civil servants with an interest in migration issues participated. They listened to Jesse Ribot and Papa Faye who presented their research on causes of migration from the sub-Saharan region of West Africa.

In the afternoon, the recently launched partnership between Borlänge and the city of Lodwar in northern Kenya was followed by a review of opportunities and conditions that the Municipal Partnership Programme can offer. The results of the workshop will be presented at a later date.
The preliminary findings of the project indicate that climate change is not the primary reason why people migrate from the Sahel zone, but rather economic factors.
