“Migrants don´t fall from the sky”

24 politicians and civil servants with an interest in migration issues participated. They listened to Jesse Ribot and Papa Faye who presented their research on causes of migration from the sub-Saharan region of West Africa.

In the afternoon, the recently launched partnership between Borlänge and the city of Lodwar in northern Kenya was followed by a review of opportunities and conditions that the Municipal Partnership Programme can offer. The results of the workshop will be presented at a later date.

The preliminary findings of the project indicate that climate change is not the primary reason why people migrate from the Sahel zone, but rather economic factors.
