Project: Action plan for equity in safe drinking water access
The main problem in Moi’s Bridge, a town belonging to Uasin Gishu County, is low access to safe drinking water. The Constitution of Kenya stipulated that the responsibility of providing safe drinking water lies with the County. The inception phase showed that inequity prevails in safe water access between citizens in the larger city Eldoret and the smaller city Moi´s Bridge.
This project aims to increase knowledge on prevailing causes, and needed measures to increase equitable access of safe drinking water in Uasin Gishu County by conducting a pilot study in Moi´s Bridge.
The method used in the pilot study is an ISO standard (22301) on continuity planning, which will be adapted to the local context. The project is based on workshops with direct and indirect stakeholders, including vulnerable groups, and the result is an action plan that will be signed by the County to ensure sustainability of the project result. A local facilitator at the County will be trained in this method, and in the future the county can use it on other areas of responsibility.
Exchange of knowledge and experiences will strengthen the capacity in both organizations. Arvika also wants to learn and become inspired by good examples of citizen participation in Uasin Gishu County.
