To strengthen the inclusion of young mothers in the local community

For almost 10 years, Arvidsjaur municipality and Mwanga district have collaborated within the framework of the Partnership Agreement, which was signed in 2009. A co-operation that gradually resulted in more structural changes in the local municipal organization and with clear effects in the operational operations.

After almost 4 years, in close cooperation with the Healthcare Committee (REHAB project), the insights on each other’s problem images / competencies have been clarified. This has, inter alia, meant that the Steering Committee chose to focus on the situation of young mothers and how the municipality should act to better include young mother in local society. A group that grew in number in Mwanga and there the situation in Arvidsjaur, also changed negatively in recent years.

In a well-defined pilot area, Lembeni ward, the results will develop guidelines, working methods and an organization that utilizes society’s all available resources to better include the young mother and child / children in local communities.

The project will be unique in the Kilimanjaro region and it will also bring Arvidsjaur new insights and ideas into the new challenges that today exist in Arvidsjaur.

HAI Tourism – Development Center 2

Tanzania is one of Africa’s largest tourist countries with many years of experience, where some parts of the country is far beyond Sweden in development regarding tourism. Though, Hai district is for the moment not contributing to the strong tourism industry in Tanzania, and is mostly used as a passage for tourists aiming for other destinations (nearby Hai).

The aim of this project is to increase the tourism industry generating better economic conditions for the local population. Increased job opportunities and high quality of the tourist attractions will in turn gain a stronger local economy. It is of importance to focus on the local establishment for those whom it concern and is affected by the changes occurring automatically. By affecting the development from “bottom and up” politicians and delegates will be engaged and have good insight in the ongoing work at all levels, which in turn will increase the throughput of the tourism development.

The Masai people have a small scale tourism sector where they mainly sell handcrafts, still they are in great need of tourism for their economic stability. Providing the Masai people with competent support and guidance will eventually increase their business and economy. Reduced poverty will in long term increase impact, preferences and social security of the citizens. The closeness to KIA affects all levels in society which in long term will involve the whole community. A local growth plan of the tourism industry and an established network among the different

REHAB 2 MRC (Municipal Rehabilitation Centre)

The four previous pilot units (health centres), which are already organized, and started to offer rehabilitation services within their area of responsibility will be further developed to the district’s four first coherent rehab-centre offering rehabilitation in a larger geographical area and with a wider range. An important step will be to organize and streamline activities that will include the patient’s family members / relatives in practical daily work in homes. This must be based on the development of these four-unifying including HC so that they can offer the opportunity for families to stay at or near the unit during start-up of the treatment.

The related parties bearing on the final rehab work in the home should not be underestimated when the entire health care suffers from high staff shortage, among other things because poor economic conditions. Based on this situation, it is of paramount importance to optimize available resources both human and financial. It has been the objective of the current project and can definitely be developed further with another project year.

Energy distribution is, despite of enormous amounts of solar energy and at times very good conditions for wind energy, a very large obstacle in the development of Tanzania and Mwanga District. Lack of energy, in addition to technical barriers and general problems, creates deforestation of solid fuel and illegal logging in order to produce coal which is sold in urban areas. In addition, there is no reforestation leading to high erosion damages, etc. in the nature.

The objective of the project is to give knowledge, technology and entrepreneurship to local enterprises and cooperatives in how efficient and profitable produce briquettes out of existing plant fibers.

Expected results: Enterprise/cooperative s which successfully have adopted the technology and knowledge of how to efficient produce briquettes, acting as raw model in Mwanga District and Kilimanjaro Regions. The long-term objective is to develop a new business area.

In this case the content/the practicalities are based on the demand of alternative methods of producing bio-energy, and related applications, in order to reduce deforestation for the benefit of nature and the local community. Another practical example could be tourism.
